Total Commander CD/DVD Burning Plugin

Q: How do I burn without administrator rights under Win2k/XP?

A:

Perform the following steps:

  1. Open the "Local Security Policy" console by clicking on the start menu -> control panel -> administrative tools, and select local security policy.
  2. Then expand the "Local Policies" section and select "security options".
  3. Change "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only." to ENABLED.

You should then be able to burn/erase mediums without administrator rights.

Q: The plugin won't let me choose the burning speed, I only have "max." available

A:

This behaviour can be caused by the following:

  • You need to turn burning speed query on in the Global Settings dialog. This feature is turned off by default, because depending on burning device and media it can take a long time to determine the speeds.
  • You have previously burned or erases a media without ejecting and re- inserting it. Some burning devices do not like that.
  • The burning device may have firmware problems or be slightly incompatible with the Windows burner standard interface. The TCBurner plugin only uses the standard interface, and does not contain drivers or information about each and every burner out there (like Nero e.g. does).

  • Q: I'm getting "write error" messages when I try to put files from an archive in a burning project

    A:

This is not a bug or problem of the Burning Plugin, but a general behaviour, i.e. missing feature, of Total Commander itself. TC does not support copying or moving files directly from an archive (or packer plugin) to a filesystem plugin. You need to manually unpack the files first to a local HDD.

Q: When I accidentially close Total Commander while a CD is being burned, the CD is lost. Can't you disable closing TC while burning?

    A:

That is not possible. From within a plugin there's no way of influencing TC that way. There's no method to tell TC "don't shut down until further notice", and plugins also don't get any function call "shutdown request, is it ok?" when TC ends.

You just have to be careful there. Or suggest that to the TC developers, they might be able to add something like that (a "shutdown ok?" request) to the plugin interface in a later TC version.
