21/11/2001
- I received information confirmed by the AVERT virus labs that the
virus report in AUTORUN.EXE was caused by a false identification. An
updated signature file should soon be available from the virus scanner's
manufacturer. I repeat, AUTORUN.EXE is not virus infected.
20/11/2001
- I'm receiving emails that the AUTORUN.EXE is infected with a
trojan/virus. Well you can be sure that the original distribution archive
MDVDP12.EXE, size 2.354.550 bytes, date 19.05.2001 is NOT virus infected.
If you have a version of AUTORUN.EXE that reports a virus, it is
definitely either a false alert, or the file comes from an unauthorized
distribution.
24/08/2001
- It appears the SirCam email virus flood is more or less over, the
amount of those emails has dropped to one every other day. Therefore the
MDVDP support email address is fully available again now.
24/07/2001
- IMPORTANT! My mailbox gets spammed with about 10 viruses of
200-500 kb each day for 2 weeks now, and I'm no longer willing to accept
this. The MDVDP support email address will for the time being only be
checked every 2-3 days, and all emails with file attachments or of more
than 30kb in size will be deleted without notice or reading. Sorry for the
inconvenience, and thanks for your understanding.
31/05/2001
- A little hint concerning the 1.2 documentation, since quite some
people asked me this: the key mentioned there named "POS 1" is
the HOME key on the 2x3 key block with PGUP, PGDN etc. Pos1 is the German
naming for this key, sorries. :)
26/05/2001
- The 1.2 version is running well it seems, 23500 downloads so far from
my site. The next 3-4 weeks I have to lay low with coding work, a major
exam at uni is upcoming. I'll still answer emails, add suggestions to the
todo list and process registrations though. :)
24/05/2001
- I was just contacted by the webmaster of dvd.box.sk and he
ensured me that there are NO viruses in the MDVDP versions he offers for
download. Since I can only rely on information I'm being told, I'm sorry
for giving anyone a bad name by publishing a virus warning.
20/05/2001
- Version 1.2 is out! Check the
Download section to get it.
18/05/2001
- Release of 1.2 imminent! :) If there are no bigger problems,
the 1.2 version will be released on May 20th, 12am GMT+2 (that is midnight
in the night from saturday to sunday for me).
16/05/2001
- Sorry, Tiasoft's news- and email server was (partially) down for about
2 days. It's running again now. Should emails to me have bounced during
this time, please send them again now. Thanks!
14/05/2001
- ShareIt activated my account today, registrations via it are
now possible! It is an international reg service, offering payment via
credit card, check, wire transfer and sending cash. See the REGISTER
section for details!
- Beta testers received the RC2 version today, if that works okay the
1.2 will be released in a few days.
- Planned release date for the 1.2 version is Saturday, 19th
May
12/05/2001
- A big thanks to all people who provided me with download mirrors so
far! I got rid of the Spaceports crap and am now only waiting for ShareIt
to activate my account, then the 1.2 version is about ready for
release.
10/05/2001
- Urgent! It seems that the download links on Spaceports web
accounts sometimes display some kind of porn sites if you don't right-
click them and choose SAVE AS, but use a normal left-click. Due to this
fact, ShareIt refuses to add the player to their list of
registerable programs. :-(
Therefore I'm now urgently looking for "regular" download
mirrors to get rid of those free webspace providers. So if you can provide
me with about 5 MB of web space which is capable of handling HIGH traffic
(check the number of downloads on the download page, and the file size,
then you get an idea what I mean ;) ), PLEASE let me know! It will be
greatly appreciated.
06/05/2001
- Beta testers are testing the Final Beta of version 1.2 now. First
release candidate will follow soon. Release is planned for mid-May.
- See Top Topic above... MicroDVD will be "Free Shareware"
from now on. Registrations via post and bank already possible, via ShareIt
(an international money order/credit card/etc. payment service) will
follow in 1-2 days.
29/04/2001
- I updated the DOWNLOAD section and added some useful workaround tools,
one for Matrox cards and the Black Box problem, and one to get around
lockups due to bad frames in DIVX moves.
23/04/2001
- Beta testers will receive the third beta of 1.2, including a new INI
Editor in a few days. Implementing new features is about done now, and
thorough-testing phase begins to prepare the public release.
- A list of major new features in the upcoming 1.2 version so far:
- Pan-and-Scan can be toggled on the fly now, using two
configurable keys to set the desired mode and turn it on/off
- Major redesign and improvement of the Playlist Editor, and
added a counterpart for INI files on your HDD: the Movie Catalog
Editor, for those users who like to keep lots of movies with their
INIs on HDD. The two editors are mainly like WinAmp's playlist
now.
- Opening files of any kind now works intuitively with the
EJECT button. Depending on the player's state (MDVD/FILE, source
CD/HDD/QuickINI) you can open an INI file, compose a QuickINI, or open
a single media file.
- The player can now change the screen resolution when
switching to fullscreen mode.
- The font size of subtitles can now be automatically
recalculated when switching to fullscreen/changing resolution, so
subtitles always appear as having the same size relative to the movie
width.
- The overlay support has been greatly improved. Detection of
available overlay should work without any black boxes / frozen frames
now. Furthermore transparent subtitles in window mode are now
available.
- The chapterlist/playlist window now has a scrollbar if more
than 35 entries have to be displayed, thus enabling it to display very
large amounts of chapters/files.
- Added a Movie Information window and a Tip of the
Day option
- Sub Station Alpha subtitle files are now supported.
- The player can now register file types to be automatically
launched when you execute them.
- Added an option minimum vertical distance between subtitles
and screen edge
11/04/2001
- Work on the 1.2 version is going well, beta testers just received the
second test version. For a list of new/changed/bugfixed features made
so far check the HISTORY section.
06/04/2001
- Good news concerning transparency mode: I found out some new things,
and I know now exacty what was quite speculation before: how the trick
works, when it works and when it does not work. With this knowledge I
greatly improved the transparency feature. Beta testers will test it soon,
and if all works okay, there will be no more countdown in fullscreen, no
more black box/frozen frame problem, and transparent subtitles even in
window mode! Only requirement will be that the video runs in gfx card's
overlay mode. If it does will be automatically detected.
05/04/2001
- The 250.000th webpage hit occured today!
- I'm planning a new feature: "Multiple movies on one CD" by
putting several normal MDVD file structures in subdirs of the CD, and a
new INI file type, maybe called MMMDVD.INI (Multiple Movie MDVD) in the
root, containing information on which movie is in which subdirectory.
03/04/2001
- Major new feature for the next version: subtitles in windowed mode! I
think some of you have been waiting for this for quite a while :-)
02/04/2001
- Besides some new features for the player there are now
Newsgroups on a dedicated server available, as a replacement for
the web forum which will be closed in a few days. Click the NEWSGROUPS
link in the left frame for details.
- I found out what causes the mouse pointer disappearing: It's the mouse
pointer shadow. Turn the shadow off (in the Mouse Properties window,
where you also set the look of the pointer) and the mouse will be
visible over the video.
30/03/2001
- User Hornady found another possible workaround for the black
box/frozen frame issue. The FAQ Entry #10 has been updated, check the part
about Hardware Acceleration. Thanks Hornady for the contribution!
- The next version of MDVDP will be able to set the audio mode of the
Intervideo Audio codec.
27/03/2001
- Micro DVD Player will support Sub Station Alpha subtitle files
in the next version. For now without style info, that will follow a bit
later. :)
- The XOOM download link is dead. Replacement is currently not needed, I
think I have enough download mirrors.
25/03/2001
- Some new features for the player, check the history.
- As you might have noticed :), I upgraded the layout of the web
page a little. Hope you like the new look.
24/03/2001
- There's another new download mirror, this one in croatia. Thanks to
Pretaanluxis for providing the web space!
- Some new features for the next version: a jump-to-specific-time window
and option minimum distance between subtitles and screen edge (I think
this was requested by some people)
22/03/2001
- Thanks to MDVDP user Dave who provided me with webspace for the
files, there's a new download link now.
- The 200.000th website hit occured today at 9.30pm local time. Time for
a big party I think! :-)
- The hit-and-download counters have trouble again. As usual with
GoWeb... :( Does anyone know of a good reliable counter for page accesses
and downloads (link click counter)?
21/03/2001
- Check the Download page for a little bugfix
- My domain is registered and active now. The new address for the
webpage is http://www.tiasoft.de and my
email address for player related mails is
mdvdp@tianet.de. Please use those new
addresses from now on. Thanks!
- Version 1.1 of the player is out! Check the
History for new stuff, and Download to get it.
- While you enjoy the new version :), I'm looking for people who'd like
to translate the documentation in other languages (send me email if
you're interested!), and for people who are willing to paint skins
and share them with other users. Check the SKINS section for instructions
on the latter.
20/03/2001
- Okay guys, we're doing the final sprint now. :) I'm now only
waiting for the DENIC to activate the domain I registered for the
player's page, then I'll move the website there and the download
section will be available again! (The known redirectors will of
course also point to the new domain then, so you won't miss
anything. :) )
17/03/2001
- Some new features added to next week's release version. :) Check
the version history page.
- I'm receiving several emails where to download the player. Please
wait till next week, then the download link will work again.
16/03/2001
- The 1.1 version is about ready, I'm now waiting for a friend to do
some work on the documentation. Expect the update and working download
links beginning of next week. :-)
10/03/2001
- IMPORTANT NEWS! First a big sorry for my long
"absence". After having waited for a new skin for several months,
I kinda froze the project and started working on some other things, plus I
had to do several exams at university.
The current situation is this: I'm putting a new skin (one of the few I was
sent when I was waiting, unfortunately a bit late and I was in the middle of
uni work then) into the player and will release the 1.1 version shortly.
Expect it in 2 weeks at max. I'm not yet sure whether I'll continue the
project later, but if not, I'll of course release or send out the source
code, so someone else can continue working on the player.
The webspace for this webpage will be shut down in about one week, the
redirector on the frontpage will point to a new place then, as soon as it is
available.
For technical reasons, I need to take down the download section till I move
to the new webspace. Please be patient, you'll be able to download the 1.1
version shortly. Requests for entering the beta team are not necessary at
this time, since I'm not really working on the project, but just putting in
the new skin.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me under the email address
given in the bottom frame. Thank you for your attention!
30/07/2000
- Another update for the skin feature. I re-uploaded the default/example
skin in the SKINS section, plus I added a list of all buttons and their
coordinates, to make it easier. Attention: some graphics of the
previous example skin had no function! Check the file Coordinates.TXT
in the new archive, only those graphics have a function.
24/07/2000
- The skin feature now fully works, including the ability to specify which
areas of the control bar shall be transparent (for rounded edges etc.). See
SKINS section for details. I'm now only waiting for some more feedback from
the beta testers, and for a really good new default skin for the player,
then the 1.1 version is ready.
22/07/2000
- I received a very promising first alternate skin for the player today.
Already thanx to MarbleMad! Some new skin stuff will follow in a bit
(e.g. a list of the positions of all graphic elements, and the ability to
make areas transparent by choosing a specific color).
21/07/2000
- A bit more patience for the 1.1 version please, I'm waiting for feedback
from the beta testers (I released a final beta for the 1.1 last weekend), I
don't want to present you with a too buggy new version.
14/07/2000
- First a big sorry for the long period without updates. I was busy
with exams and this and that and much other work. But I'm eagerly trying to
spend some time on MDVDP again now. :) Next week I'll release the next
version 1.1 with the features it currently has, there are already a lot of
changes from the 1.0.
09/06/2000
- Attention: Since I have an important exam at uni in 2 weeks (June
26th), I must freeze all MDVDP related activity until then. So please be
patient, new features and announcements will resume afterwards.
28/05/2000
- There are some new features/bugfixes again, plus I split the History
section into current versions and older versions to decrease
the loading time of the history list.
- I saw some webpages offer a tool "Auto-launch CD for MDVDP Version
1.1". Important: This is not version 1.1 of my player, just
version 1.1 of that auto-launch tool!
26/05/2000
- The much-wanted feature 3-CD main movie is now implemented for
the next version. The beta-testers are currently testing it.
- A new beta version is out! Beta-testers please go to the beta section
for details.
24/05/2000
- There are some new features for the next version of the player, you
might want to check the version history.
- After I received lots of requests :), I will implement the following
features in (one of) the next version(s): Main Movie over 3 CDs,
Subtitles for Special Feature Videos, and Subtitles in Window Mode
19/05/2000
- Not many news to report these days. I'm quite busy with studying, but
I'm implementing some of the news/changes on the To Do list every now
and then.
14/05/2000
- There are several new features for the next version of the player. It
might be worth taking a look at the version history. :-)
12/05/2000
- Friday, 12th May 2000, about 6 p.m. (UTC+1). The 50000th website hit
just occured. PAAAAARTY !!! :-)
11/05/2000
- The French documentation is now available. See Download section.
Thanks to S.Virth for his work!
- Bad news: I found some AVIs that produce a Freeze Frame Bug on my system
too. It reproducably works on my systems with most AVIs, no matter the
resolution or aspect ration, but some AVIs from a game or from ICQ produce
FFBs (also here no matter the resolution or aspect ratio). So I conclude up
to now that my player does the initialization all okay, but the method I use
for the transparency trick does not work for some codecs and for some
systems (graphic cards, drivers, OSes, combination of those). I'll
investigate some more into this. But it seems that if the hints mentioned in
FAQ entry #10 do not work, the transparency stuff does not work at all for
that particular system. I'm sorry but I cannot change it.
10/05/2000
- It seems many of you have problems with the transparent subtitles/OSD.
Please, first check the FAQ on this page, entry #10. If that does not help,
tell me the exact circumstances under which the bug occurs (graphics card,
File/MDVD Mode, video and screen resolution, movie with menu?, auto-
fullscreen?). To make fullscreen+subtitles work, you can turn off the
transparent mode in configuration.
07/05/2000
- The long expected version
1.0 is out! See History for changes, and Download to
get it.
- Note: The French, Dutch and Greek versions of the documentation are not
yet ready. They will be downloadable in seperate files as soon as I get
them.
06/05/2000
- This site now also has a nice guestbook! Please take a look at
it (see link in the top-frame menu) and feel free to add your entry!
- I wrote a little tool SubConvert that converts subtitle files
from one of the format MDVDP supports to its native format. This tool will
be included in the distro archive of the player's 1.0 version.
05/05/2000
- The Dutch and French version of the documentation are now being
translated, and after a few final bugfixes and preparations the 1.0 version
will be released. Expect it during the weekend or beginning of next
week.
04/05/2000
- The first of the two major bugs, the Windows 2000 crash,
should be fixed. Work on the Black Box Bug is going well too!
- For the next version there will also be a Dutch translation of the
documentation too! Thanks a lot to Mornstar for this!
03/05/2000
- The beta team is growing well. :) The testing for the 1.0 release is
also running fine. I hope that I can release 1.0 at the beginning of
next week.
02/05/2000
- The final beta testing for the 1.0 release has begun. Currently hunted
bugs are the Black Box Bug (concerning transparent subtitles) and a nasty
crash on Windows 2000 systems. ETA for 1.0 release is beginning of next
week.
01/05/2000
- There are some interesting new features for the next version. Go
check the Version History for details!
- Today I'll finish implementing all features that I want to see in the
1.0 release. I'll send one more test version to the beta testers, and when
all bugs that might still be in there are fixed, I'll finally release the
version 1.0! I hope this will be this or next week. Stay tuned!
29/04/2000
- There are some new features for the next version again, e.g. a
pan-and-scan option for movies. Go check the Version History
for details!
27/04/2000
- There is a major new feature for the next version of the
Player: On-Screen Display. Go check the Version History for
details!
25/04/2000
- The CPU Quality setting for DIVX will be operational in the next
version, I got a bugfixed DIVX decoder file from someone on IRC!
23/04/2000
- The transparent subtitles are fully working now. See the version
history for further details on new subtitle features! I'm working on the
on-screen display feature right now.
22/04/2000
- I finally kicked the old webcounter, because it was offline again
several times, yesterday for about 12 hours. A counter who's down that much
is crap, even if it's free of cost. I'm with a new webcounter now, which
unfortunately does not offer download counters, but I meanwhile know that
new versions are downloaded about 1600 times the first day, and up to 4500
times until I release the next version :-). So a download counter is not
that necessary right now.
- I have the following plans for the future: I'll implement some
new features (on-screen display, a wider seek bar for fullscreen mode with
chapter/bookmark position display and some other things which are on the
ToDo list). Then I'll finally release the version 1.0, and I'll send
further versions to a team of beta testers before releasing them. This
should minimize bugs in released versions, and we get rid of that ugly
"beta" in the version number. :-).
21/04/2000
- My experiments with transparent subtitles are going very well!
I'm already quite sure the next version will support it. Still I'm sending
an "intermediate beta" to some interested testers to make sure
the new method works on (almost) all systems.
20/04/2000
- Very good news! I found a method to make a form transparent over
a playing WinMediaPlayer video! This means, if this method is applicable for
MDVDP, there will be support for subtitles overlaying the video in
one of the next versions of the player !
Attention: Since this is a quite complicated new feature which uses
some kind of trick, I'd like to send the player to some testers before
releasing a new version. If you are interested in subtitle testing, please
contact me!
- Many people informed me about the only upper half of subtitles
visible bug. This ensures me that people indeed use my new
features! :-) Thanx for the report, it's fixed for the next version
meanwhile. For now (0.9b9) just turn off the vertical centering, then it
should work.
18/04/2000
- There are some new feature for the next version of the
Player, concerning subtitles and menu+remote control. Go check the
Version History for details!
17/04/2000
- The old webcounter is working again, so I switched back to that.
But I'll keep my subscription to the new one, plus I save the HTML files
with the new counter so I can quickly change, should an extended downtime
of the counter occur again.
- There's a new feature for the next version of the Player,
made especially for the people who want to simply and quickly play video
plus subtitles without INI file editing. Go check the Version History
for details!
16/04/2000
- I just switched to another Webcounter since the one I used so far
has big problems with reachability the last days. Unfortunately the new one
has no sub-counters for the file downloads, but the advantage is that the
download should work better and start quicker now (or rather: work at all,
cause the non-working counter caused the download to fail, or forced you
to enter the target URL manually).
- There are some cool new subtitle related features for the next
version of the Player. Go check the Version History for
details!
12/04/2000
- ATTENTION: There was a bug in 0.9b9 causing subtitle format 1 to
fail loading. (I changed the loading routine to work around some strange
form of SubViewer files, but naturally some others didn't work anymore which
I didn't notice. :-) ) It's fixed, if you notice this bug, download the file
PLAYER09B9.EXE (no need to redownload the full package).
- Finally: The new version
0.9 Beta 9 is out! See History for changes, and Download
to get it.
09/04/2000
- A new subtitle format will be supported in the next version of the
player: SubViewer 2.0.
- Release of version 0.9b9 is due for the beginning of the next week! Stay
tuned.
08/04/2000
- Many people asked for it, now it's there: Remote Control Support
(currently only the RealMagic remote) and INI File Wizard. Go check
the Version History for details!
06/04/2000
- There are some cool new features for the next version of the
Player. Go check the Version History for details!
03/04/2000
- A quite cool new feature in the INI Editor: extract chapter start
information from IFO file. You only need VobSnoopy which can
convert the IFO file into an ASCII form which can be handled easier.
02/04/2000
- There are new features (mainly bugfixes) for the next version of
the Player. Go check the Version History for details!
- The next two major new features Remote Control Support and INI
File Wizard are going well. Some more days and they should be
ready.
31/03/2000
- Good news everyone! I got a Hollywood+ remote control from RealMagic
today (thanks to Careyer!), made some experiments, and can say: the next
version of MDVDP will fully support the H+ remote!
- There are new features for the next version of the Player.
Go check the Version History for details!
30/03/2000
- Not much news at this time... Don't worry, I'm working on the
INI Wizard, which is quite a big new feature. So it will take me some
more days. :)
- <Celebration mode on> The 20.000th webpage hit occured today!
29/03/2000
- Wow... 1300 downloads in one day. Seems you guys really like my
player! :-)
- I'm working on a new feature: changing DIVX settings brightness,
saturation, hue and contrast and later also CPU Quality from
within MDVDP. I found out something very interesting today and I think
I am close to a solution.
28/03/2000
- The French documenation for Beta 8 is available now. I included
it in the main package mdvdp09b8.exe and the docs-only package
docs09b8.exe. See download page, if you already downloaded the main
package, you only need the docs package. Thanks to S.Virth for his
great effort translating the documentation!
- New version 0.9 Beta 8 is
out! Go check the Download page.
26/03/2000
- I experimented a bit with the "Anir Multimedia Magic" remote
control. Unfortunately I didn't find out too much. Only that the Carrier
Detect signal of the COM port rapidly changes its state when you press
a button. If anyone of you has information about remote controls,
how they send their data to the COM port, please let me know!
- Several people asked me about it, so I finally started now writing a
Wizard for the INI Editor, meaning a dialog-driven way to set up
a new INI file.
- The Eject button is now operational, plus there are three new
options "Auto-eject CD when movie ends", "Auto-eject CD when
prompted to insert another CD (in case only one CD-ROM drive is available)"
and "Auto-close CD-ROM door when pressing PLAY in MDVD from CD
mode"
- I just tested the subtitle ripper SubRip
and it works great! OCR, timecode and display duration are perfect.
- The next version of MDVDP which I'll release soon will have support
for reading SubRip's subtitle files, so no conversion is needed anymore.
Just rip the subs and put them into MDVDP!
25/03/2000
- I'm currently doing some experiments, and if they are successful, the
player will soon have support for IR Remote Controls and be able
to toggle between VGA and TV output !
- There are new features for the next version of the Player.
Go check the Version History for details!
24/03/2000
- The control bar is filling up :), the three buttons that had no function
yet have one now. Select Special Video is on an own button (up to now it
was on the Chapters button). Plus there are two new functions Repeat
and Shuffle now.
23/03/2000
- Besides some other new features (see history!), the player now supports
the native subtitle file format written by SubRip.
22/03/2000
- Thanks to S.Virth, the Micro DVD Player now has a documentation
in French too! I'll include it in the next version.
- There are new features for the next version of the Player.
Go check the Version History for details!
- There's a method now to play AVI files with multiple audio tracks in them
with the MediaPlayer and hence in MDVDP! Up to now, that was not possible
because MediaPlayer plays all audio tracks at once, but thanks to SPIRIT who
wrote a tutorial on how to overcome that problem
(see here), MDVDP
has now the ability to play multilanguage from one AVI file !
21/03/2000
- There are new features for the next version of the Player.
Go check the Version History for details! Also check the new entries
in the FAQ list.
- Attention: It seems SubRipper does not write SubViewer
compatible subtitle files, it omits the status information in the
beginning of the file (these [TITLE], [AUTHOR] etc. lines). But MDVDP, when
importing SubViewer format sub files, expects the [BEGIN] line, before that
no import is done. And the last line is expected to be [END]. So for the
moment, if you want to import SubViewer style files written by SubRipper,
manually add the line "[BEGIN]" as first and "[END]" as
last line of your subtitle file.
And remember to set the Format entry in SUBTITLES section (or the
corresponding textbox for Quick-INI Mode) correctly!
- Several people asked for it, so I implemented it for the next version:
an easy way to load a video and an audio and/or subtitle file, so you
can watch multilanguage and/or subtitles without having to write an INI
file. (Of course you don't have chapters or a menu then.)
I introduced a third Movie Source called Quick-INI. You just
set the player to Quick-INI mode, choose the desired files in the
configuration screen or using a new button on the control bar, and press
play. Furthermore, there's a new button on the control bar now enabling you
to quickly toggle the movie source.

- My email provider has a little hacker trouble right now, so should your
email get bounced, leave me a note on the bulletin board instead.
- The subtitle ripper SubRip now
has - besides other new features - timecode and duration extract support! Go
check it out. It doesn't write MDVDP style subfiles (yet), but there's a
little conversion utility in the download section.
- For all those lazy people ;) who don't want to write an INI file just to
play a video with subtitles, I'll implement an appropriate function
"Load Video and Subfile" soon. In fact this function will switch
to MDVD mode, but won't require an INI file but create the necessary data
internally.

- New version 0.9 Beta 7 is
out! Go check the Download page.
- Some more example INI and SUB files are available now in the
Examples section of the website and also in the program package
available for download.
- The bulletin board is now ready for action! (If you don't see the
new link in the top frame menu, reload the page!)
- There are new features for the next version of the Player.

- The version 0.2b4 of
SubRipper can now write timecodes in MicroDVD format. Unfortunately
the author uses a fixed FPS rate of 25 for seconds-to-frames conversion,
so it's unusuable for NTSC movies. Plus it doesn't store timecodes in
frame resolution, but only seconds resolution. I emailed the author about
that, I hope he'll fix that soon.

- The Copy secondary audio files to HDD feature is ready, plus
some more. Go check the Version History for details!
- The subtitle ripper SubRipper is becoming better and better!
The current version has a built-in OCR teacher and very promising
timecode extraction! Take a look at it
here !
- Until there's a good method to get the end frame (when to hide
again) for subtitles, I'll implement a feature "estimate display duration"
(the longer the sub, the longer it's displayed) in the player's next
version.
16/03/2000
- I'm working on the feature Copy secondary audio files to HDD to
reduce CD-ROM laser head movement right now. IMPORTANT: I'm going to
use the movie's ID (see INI file, section MAIN) as directory name for
the movie's copied audio files in the HDD directory, therefore you may
ONLY use characters in the ID string that are valid characters in a
file name too !
- Some people seem to have problems with creation of INI files. I'm putting
up some real-life examples for INI and Subtitle files on this webpage.
- I just checked out the two subtitle displaying tools SubMagic and
SubViewer. Nice, but simple. ;-) They're really just displaying the
subtitles, you have to define an external player for the actual video/audio.
Some notes on that:
- Nevertheless my player supports their format now too. Well, actually
their format could be done better. Its line structure is unneccessarily
complicated, and it only has a resolution of one second. In fast-paced
movie dialogues this could cause intense visible lag (my format
has a resolution of one frame).
- To watch a video with subtitles in my tool, you just have to create
a very small INI file with sections MAIN, MOVIE and SUBTITLES
which you put in the same directory as the video and sub file. Example
soon!. That's a 2 minutes' work and then you can start the movie by
simply choosing the INI file, and you don't have to load the video and
sub file seperately all the time!
- I'm planning to release (or include in the INI editor) my little
SubEdit tool with that you can easily enter timecodes into a
subtitle file by pressing keys while watching the movie.

- Phew!! According to the webserver logs of my friend's provider, the MDVDP
package caused 2,5 Gigabyte traffic in 5 days !!
I had to remove it from his webspace therefore, and put it on Xoom,
Spaceports etc.
As those providers aren't too stable, I'm looking for some nice guys
who can also provide me with webspace for a download mirror. If you
feel like a nice guy, please contact me! :-)

intended under Netscape, so I'm working on them now.

- There's a bug in the Documentation for version 0.9b5: The default
values meaning "deactivated" for the entries
ProhibitSelectionBefore and ProhibitSelectionAfter in the
Pages section was given as 0, which is wrong. It has to be -1!

can extract timecodes too! Stay tuned for more news...
- Please reload the whole page, I made some major internal change
concerning the web counter. Thank you!

editor. Go check the Version History for details!

- I was asked by two people why I use an own file format for the subtitle
feature. Well, mine is easier to handle for me. :) But I put the feature
Read other subtitle file formats, especially SubRipper on the
ToDo-List! It will be implemented in the next version.
- I just noticed that I forgot to put a Subtitles section in the
INI editor. Shame on me! :-) Will be corrected in the next version.
- IMPORTANT: Something I forgot to mention in the Documenation:
Currently Micro DVD Player only displays the subtitles when you watch
the video in Fullscreen Mode ! This might change in a future version.

- The first public release Version 0.9 Beta 5 is ready! Go for it...
