The Answers

  1. Q: Why wouldn't MDVDP display my subtitles? I configured everything correctly, but no subs are shown when I activate them.
A: Micro DVD Player currently only displays subtitles when you watch the movie in fullscreen mode. This might change in a future release.
  2. Q: Why do you use seperate files for additional languages and do not multiplex them into one AVI like DVD2AVI?
A: Unfortunately I need to use the system functions of Windows Media Player, and these do not offer the option to choose the audio stream to play in case there are more than one in an AVI. It always plays all audio streams at the same time. Until this problem is fixed, I need to use seperate files. But I'll implement a feature soon to copy the secondary language files to HDD to play them from there. Their size is usually max. 100 MB per CD, so with the current HDD sizes this should not be a problem.
  3. Q: I can't set the entry "MoviePath" correctly when I burn a movie to a CD.
A: When you burn a movie CD, do not include an MDVDP.INI on the CD. It won't be used anyway, cause it is not writeable on the CD. The player's config file is automatically created and managed for each user. For playing a movie from CD, the user has to set the player to MDVD mode and the loading to "From CD", so the entry "MoviePath" has no effect in this case!
  4. Q: I made a movie CD with Special Feature videos. How can I run the specials?
A: You currently can only run special feature videos if your movie has a Nav Menu. From there, you can either use the intended menu page and selection, or the Chapters button, which lists the special videos when clicked in the menu. In a future version of the player, the player will offer to display a replacement menu if there is no real one so that you have the chance to select the desired video.
  5. Q: Can I continue the movie where left it for the menu?
A: Yes, you can. Just click the Menu button a second time when you used it to jump from the movie to the menu, and you'll be back in the movie, right where you left it. Even more: when you Stop a movie, the position where you leave it is remembered. When you start it the next time, you can click the Play button a second time (when the menu runs) to continue playing where you stopped!
  6. Q: I use SubViewer style subtitle files written by SubRipper. Why wouldn't MDVDP display them?
A: SubRipper does not write SubViewer compatible subtitle files at this time, it omits the status information in the beginning of the file (these [TITLE], [AUTHOR] etc. lines). But MDVDP, when importing SubViewer format sub files, expects the [BEGIN] line, before that no import is done. And the last line is expected to be [END]. So for the moment, if you want to import SubViewer style files written by SubRipper, manually add the line "[BEGIN]" as first and "[END]" as last line of your subtitle file.
  7. Q: I made a 2-CD MDVD, but the second CD is not recognized when the player instructs me to insert it.
A: Make sure that you set the ID entry in the [MAIN] section of the MDVD.INI on all CDs identically. Also make sure that you give the CDs volume labels, because the player detects presence of a CD in the drive by checking its label.
  8. Q: When I try to play a movie, a German error message "Schnittstelle nicht unterstützt" appears.
A: This error occurs when your version of Windows Media Player is too old. Please download and install the version 6.4 or newer, then it should work.
  9. Q: I have bad video performance when playing a movie in fullscreen. Why?
A: This seems to happen only on some systems and only when using the Fast Motion DIVX. It's not a fault of MDVDP, and I cannot do anything about it at this time. Sorry, please try another codec.
  10. Q: I get an error message saying that the player was unable to detect overlay mode, or I get a black box all over the video.
A: To display transparent subtitles in windowed+fullscreen mode, and to display the OSD in fullscreen mode, your graphics card must display the video in overlay mode. Availability and correct detection of this mode depends on many parameters. See documentation, section Transparent Subtitles for information on this! If you have a persistent problem with the black box, turn off the Transparent Subtitles mode in configuration.
  11. Q: Under Windows 2000 the mouse pointer disappears when I move it over a running video.
A: I found out what causes the mouse pointer disappearing: It's the mouse pointer shadow. Turn the shadow off (in the Mouse Properties window, where you also set the look of the pointer) and the mouse will be visible over the video.
  12. Q: Where has the command to quickly open a video, audio and subtitle file gone to?
A: This option is not gone, but the EJECT button is now the universal LOAD button. Depending on the state of the player, it will actually eject CDs (if in MDVDP-From-CD mode), let you load a movie INI (if in MDVDP-From-HDD mode), compose a QuickINI (if in MDVDP-From-QuickINI mode) or load a media file (if in FILE mode). Use the M and F buttons on the control bar to toggle the modes.
